Completed project: a fridge water line hook-up in Vaughan

A new fridge with an ice maker and water dispenser is only as good as the water line feeding it — and a bad hook-up is one of the most common sources of a slow, hidden leak in a kitchen. This Vaughan homeowner wanted their new fridge connected properly, with a shut-off valve so it can be isolated without touching the rest of the house.

The scope of work

We tapped into the existing copper supply with a proper tee and a dedicated shut-off valve, ran a clean water line to the fridge, and connected it to the appliance inlet with a fresh compression fitting. Then we opened the valve, checked every joint, and ran the dispenser to confirm there were no drips before pushing the fridge back into place.

The result

Finished fridge water line tap-in in Vaughan with a chrome shut-off tee on the copper supply
After: a clean tap-in with its own shut-off, feeding the ice maker and dispenser.

A tidy, leak-free connection with its own shut-off — so if the fridge ever needs to move or the line ever needs service, it takes one quarter-turn instead of shutting off the whole house.

What a fridge water line hook-up costs

  • Connect to an existing water line or valve: $90–$160
  • New tap-in with a shut-off valve and run: $160–$300
  • Longer runs or awkward access: quoted on inspection

Distance from the supply and the type of tap-in drive the price. Every job is leak-tested before we leave.

Why hire a professional

  • A saddle valve or a rushed fitting is the classic cause of a slow leak that rots a floor from underneath.
  • A proper shut-off valve means the fridge can be isolated without shutting down the whole house.
  • Leak-testing before the fridge goes back means any drip shows up now, not in a cabinet months from now.

"A fridge water line is a small job that causes big damage when it is done badly. A shut-off valve and a leak test are non-negotiable."
