Completed project: an exterior dryer vent replacement in Bradford

A dryer vent is easy to ignore until a bird nests in it or a winter draft comes whistling through. This Bradford home had a bare duct poking through the brick with no cover at all — an open invitation to pests, drafts and driving rain. The fix is quick and makes a real difference to comfort and efficiency.

Before: an open duct through the brick, wide open to pests and weather.

The scope of work

We fitted a new louvered exterior vent hood over the duct — the kind with a flap that opens when the dryer runs and falls shut when it stops, keeping animals and drafts out. It was sealed to the brick with exterior-grade caulk so wind-driven rain cannot get behind it.

After: a sealed louvered hood that opens for airflow and shuts against pests and weather.

A five-minute annoyance becomes a proper, sealed exterior detail — better for efficiency, better for comfort, and one less way for wildlife to get into the house.

What a vent replacement costs

  • Replace an exterior vent hood: $90–$180
  • New vent through a wall, or ducting repair: $180–$400

Wall material and whether new ducting is needed drive the price. We quote clearly before starting.

Why it is worth doing

  • An open or broken vent lets birds, rodents and insects straight into the ducting and the wall.
  • A vent that will not seal wastes heat in winter and lets in drafts and moisture.
  • A sealed louvered hood keeps lint venting outside where it belongs and the weather where it belongs.

Home maintenance across York Region and Simcoe County

We handle the small exterior jobs that keep a house tight and efficient — vents, weather stripping and seasonal property maintenance — across Bradford, Newmarket, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Richmond Hill and the wider York Region and Simcoe County.
